This motorcycle and sidecar combination was made by the Royal Ruby Cycle Co. Ltd of Altrincham in 1916. It was made for the Imperial Russian Army, but was not delivered owing to the 1917 Revolution. It was sold in 1919 for £90 10s (£90.50).
George Rigby set up the Ruby Cycle Company in Ancoats, Manchester. During the First World War, military contracts allowed the company to move to bigger premises in Altrincham. However, Royal Ruby became bankrupt in 1922.
